Letter from the Directors:
Wow, what an amazing 10 years! It’s hard to believe that 10 years ago, two of the five members of our staff and Chancellor Cunningham officially launched the UT TeleCampus during a Board of Regents meeting at UT Permian Basin, while the remaining three members of the staff watched by videoconference back in Austin. The level of excitement (and anxiety) was palpable. Online education was still relatively new and we were certainly out in front of the pack – but there was no way of knowing if anyone would really be interested. We didn’t even offer any courses with our launch. Instead we spent a year focusing on services and then building very high quality programs that would be offered for the first time in Fall 1999.
Since then it has been warp speed ahead. The UT TeleCampus is now nationally recognized as a benchmark for online course and program quality and support, as well as multi-campus collaborative degree programs. The number of awards and accolades we have received is phenomenal – for individual staff, staff teams, our programs and courses and the faculty who teach them, and for our ideas. Members of the staff are frequently asked to keynote or speak on panels or participate in workshops at state and national meetings, and our marketing and communications team has garnered over two dozen awards alone for their efforts. To say that the TeleCampus and the staff who run it are at the top of their game is an understatement!
We are very fortunate to have had the support of three Chancellors who have each recognized the strength of the mission and vision of the TeleCampus. And through the generous support of the UT System Board of Regents, the TeleCampus has provided access to the highest quality courses and programs for tens of thousands of Texas students, many of whom would have never been able to step foot on one of our campuses. We can only accomplish these feats in close partnership with the 15 academic and health institutions in the UT System. Our deepest thanks go to all of our campus partners, administrators, faculty and staff.
The amazing staff of the TeleCampus has a passion for providing opportunities for learners, and as directors we could not be more proud of their dedication, professionalism, and their constant focus on quality and access.
We are proud of what has been accomplished by the TeleCampus in our first ten years, and we are very excited about what challenges lay ahead in our next decade. Together we will continue to grow our mission of increased access to the resources of the UT System for the citizens of the State of Texas.
